The fastest quantum chip!!
WAY TOO FAST
As of May 2025, the fastest quantum chip publicly known is Google's Willow processor. Revealed in December 2024, Willow is a 105-qubit superconducting quantum chip that achieved a significant milestone in quantum computing. In benchmark tests, it completed a computation in under five minutes that would take today's fastest supercomputers approximately 10 septillion years (10²⁵ years) to solve, showcasing a insane leap in speed…
So how does it work?
The Willow quantum chip by Google works using super conducting Qubits .
Wht is a qubit?
A qubit is the basic unit of quantum information.
Unlike a regular bit (which is 0 or 1), a qubit can be in 0, 1, or both at the same time!!! (called superposition).
Qubits can also become entangled, which meaning their states are linked even over distance.
Now what is a super conducting qubit?
These are super tiny loops of superconducting wire cooled near absolute zero (~15 millikelvin).
When they are this cold they have quantum behavior and can maintain superposition and entanglement.
The willor is Controlled using microwave pulses that flip or rotate the qubits to perform quantum logic opeations (like quantum gates).
Although there is a con with quantum computers and that is quantum error….
A big problem in quantum computers is noise – small errors due to instability.
Willow uses advanced error-correcting codes: instead of storing one piece of data in one qubit, it stores it across a ton , detecting and correcting errors as they occur.
Willow demonstrated exponential error suppression, meaning that more qubits lead to less error per computation. This means we can add more qubits and also decrease the error rate.
